The opportunity
Hitachi Energy is seeking an experienced and motivated R&D Team Manager to lead our Next Generation Grids Transformers team in Geneva, Switzerland.
In this role, you will manage a team of 5+ engineers and drive the development of advanced and innovative technologies, including medium frequency transformers and power electronics enhanced transformers. You will combine people leadership with strong technical guidance and project ownership, contributing to the execution of R&D strategy in a global environment.
How you’ll make an impact
Lead, develop, and motivate an international R&D team of 5+ engineers with know-how in medium frequency transformers, power converters and lab testing
Provide technical leadership and support the team in solving complex engineering challenges
Contribute to R&D strategy and technology direction, including development of roadmaps for the New Generation Grids Transformers product line
Plan, drive, and deliver R&D projects, ensuring alignment with scope, timelines, and quality targets
Collaborate closely with global R&D teams, engineering functions, and external partners
Manage project resources and budgets to maximize impact and operational efficiency
Site R&D laboratory and infrastructure responsibility, including driving expansion plans
Introduce and implement new tools, technologies, and processes to improve performance
Your background
Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field
Several years of industrial experience in product development, or technology management
Strong technical background in transformers and power converters
Proven experience in project management within R&D or product development
Experience in leading technical teams (line or project leadership) and working in international and cross-functional environments
Strong communication skills in English (French is a plus) as well as stakeholder engagement capabilities
