Demurrage & Detention Manager
We are searching for an experienced Demurrage & Detention Manager at our MSC Geneva facility.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Manager – Demurrage & Detention plays a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing MSC’s global D&D revenues, reporting directly to the Chief Logistics Officer (CLO) and leading a team of 4 FTEs.
They will provide strategic insights and actionable recommendations to enhance profitability and equipment operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting & Analysis
Report to top management on D&D results, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities.
Analyse D&D invoicing trends and propose strategies to improve profitability, running benchmarking exercises and proposing improvements in the tariff structure.
Simulate the results of changes to D&D tariff structures and present findings to the MSC HQ Liner Department and other key stakeholders.
Stakeholder Engagement
Conduct regular meetings with the MSC HQ Liner Department to review trade results, analyse trends, and identify opportunities to enhance revenue collection.
Maintain ongoing communication with Worldwide Logistics teams to address discrepancies and propose process improvements.
Collaborate with other internal stakeholders to ensure procedures are optimized and effectively implemented.
System & Process Improvement
Maintain direct and continuous contact with IT teams to drive system enhancements, prioritize developments, contribute to the design of new functionalities, and ensure data quality.
Team Collaboration
Work closely with HQ and SSC Greece teams to align strategies and share best practices.
Major Challenges of the Position
Knowledge Transfer & Onboarding: The role requires deep in-house expertise and familiarity with complex internal systems and procedures, making onboarding and knowledge transfer a critical challenge.
Navigating Conflicts of Interest: Balancing negotiations with external agencies and internal colleagues may present potential conflicts of interest, requiring diplomacy, transparency, and sound judgment.
Maintaining Strategic Oversight: Given the volume and granularity of data, it can be challenging to maintain a strategic, high-level perspective. The role demands the ability to synthesize detailed information without losing sight of broader business objectives.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills
Degree in Finance, Business Management, or a Maritime-related field.
Strong understanding of shipping operations and container logistics.
Proficiency in maritime freight tariff calculation and data analysis.
Familiarity with OneVision Headquarters modules (MSC GVA systems) is a plus.
Experience
Proven experience in contract analysis and financial reporting.
Exposure to Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems.
Skills & Competencies
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
