Internship – Data Science
Role Overview:
To support our Technology Department in the Advanced Materials division, we are looking for an Intern in Data Science. The position is a 6-month internship based at our Advanced Materials Innovation Center in Basel, Switzerland. The preferred start date is September 2026.
This role has been created to support the digital transformation of the Technology Department and contribute to ongoing knowledge management initiatives. We are looking for someone who is curious, analytical, and eager to apply data science, automation, and AI-related technologies in a multidisciplinary environment.

Role Responsibilities:
As an Intern in Data Science, you will be responsible for:
Compile and analyze experimental data from archived projects to be utilized in data science initiatives
Build, maintain, and optimize end-to-end data pipelines that acquire, ingest, and process data from multiple sources into the enterprise Generative AI Platform.
Develop, prototype, and test LLM-based architectures and agentic systems for processing large-scale structured and unstructured datasets.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to translate domain-specific problems into computational solutions, such as retrieval, ranking, and reasoning, in the fields of chemistry and materials science.
Assist in the automation of manual processes & dashboards.
Participate in code reviews and agile development cycles.
Document data processing scripts, data workflows and generate technical reports.
Work closely with a multidisciplinary team within Huntsman Advanced Materials, reporting into the Technology Department.
Experience and Competencies:
We are looking for candidates with a strong interest in data science, digital transformation, and applied AI technologies, who are motivated to learn and contribute in an international, collaborative environment.
What we are looking for:
Bachelor’s degree completed or currently enrolled in a Master’s programme in computer science, applied mathematics, engineering, or statistics.
Strong programming skills in Python; JavaScript is a plus.
Familiarity with LLMs, vector databases, and prompt engineering concepts.
Familiarity with cloud service platforms, such as Azure.
Basic knowledge of web development frameworks and SQL.
Basic knowledge of machine learning is a plus.
Knowledge of chemistry or materials science is a plus.
Passion to learn and a collaborative mindset.
Fluent in English.
A proactive attitude, strong communication skills, and motivation to contribute to digital transformation in a technology-driven environment.
